From Sheriff’s Posse to Service
Big Money Duke has spent his entire life serving others. “Blaze” was the 2024 reserve AQHA-PATH Intl. Equine-Assisted Services Horse of the Year, determined through a selection process by AQHA and PATH Intl. This award highlights the horses who, no matter their background, have found their forever home in the world of equine-assisted services. Blaze’s center, The Arc Caddo-Bossier’s GREAT program, received $5,000, a trophy and banner for this recognition and was recognized at the 2025 AQHA Convention in late March.

The Arc Caddo-Bossier Celebrates 70th anniversary
The Arc Caddo-Bossier celebrated their 70th anniversary of building unlimited opportunities for people with disabilities. The event was held at the Riverview Hall and provided family-friendly entertainment with live music by local band Airheart, a petting zoo courtesy of Grice and Grace Farms of Louisiana, inflatables, activities, and food.

On Saturday, March 8, the Arc Caddo-Bossier held a retirement party for one of their longtime leaders. Cheryl Taylor has worked with the nonprofit for 27 years, filling multiple roles. She was most recently the director of development and planning.

Cool It, Cowboy - Wine Dine Equine returns
The Arc Caddo-Bossier will hold its Wine, Dine and Equine fundraiser this year on Friday, Oct. 27, at Red River Brew Pub at the Garage from 6-10 p.m.
According to The Arc’s representative, Alex Wallace, this year’s event is called “Cool It, Cowboy,” and will offer food, drink, music, and live and silent auctions. She said tickets and even sponsorships were still available to help with The Arc’s programs.

Goldman School expanding into The Highland Center, expect to reduce childcare waiting list
The Highland Center is getting a school. On Tuesday, April 18, the Arc Caddo-Bossier announced that it would be partnering with the Highland Center to expand the Goldman School and Child Development Center.
The Goldman School is a Type III, Licensed, Four-Star quality rated child development center for children ages 8 weeks to 5 years old. This school provides inclusive learning for children with and without disabilities in both private and childcare assistance pay.

Remembering Father Paul: renowned Shreveport faith leader dead at 87
A Holy Cross legend passed into his heavenly life Sunday morning. On Oct. 9, Fr. Kenneth Wayne Paul, commonly known as Father Paul, left his life here on Earth after serving the Shreveport-Bossier area for nearly 40 years.
"It is impossible to state the impact his near 40-year tenure as rector has had on our church, our community and our city," said the Rev. Garrett Boyte on Facebook.

The Arc Caddo-Bossier’s GREAT Program to host the GREAT 5K & Paddlefest Fundraiser at Fox Creek Farms. It's happening Saturday at 8 a.m. at Fox Creek Farms on 11958 Ellerbe Rd. The purpose is to raise funds for The Arc Caddo-Bossier’s GREAT Program (Great Results Equine Assisted Therapies). GREAT provides equine assisted services to adults and children with disabilities via group and private lessons and equine assisted learning. We also offer inclusive summer camps for children with and without disabilities.

Volunteer of the Year: Diagnosis led to enduring passion
Debbie Banks’ life changed completely when her newborn stopped breathing at two days old. Her son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and Banks soon became deeply involved with The Arc Caddo-Bossier, a non-profit agency that provides support and services for those with developmental disabilities and their families.
More than 40 years later, Banks will be honored as Volunteer of the Year by the Governor’s Office of Disability Affairs for her breadth of work with The Arc.

Arc sets free concert
Pianist Tony DeBlois will help the Arc Caddo-Bossier celebrate its 60th birthday with a free community concert Friday.
DeBlois, who is blind and autistic, was the subject of the 1997 CBS TV movie “Journey of the Heart”. Despite his challenges, he graduated magna cum laude from the Berklee College of Music. He performs internationally.
